Enlighten on the road: Unreal Summit Seoul, Korea 2019

Korea, the home of K-pop and e-sports, and food that makes some of our staff never want to leave. Gaming is everywhere in Korea, just look around. Flip through the channels on a TV and you’ll be amazed by how many programs are people playing or talking about games. Be it RTS, FPS, MMO or mobile; gamers there are passionate and the developers equally so.

Korea is probably our most frequent global stop, being just a few hours away, and we often make the rounds to Seoul, Bundang, and Pangyo.

This trip brought us to Seoul for the Unreal Summit 2019. In the span of 2 days we met with hundreds of people from some of the biggest developers in the country along with driven university and even high school students aiming to join the ranks. Everyone we met with was well informed and kept us on our toes answering question after question. There are always hot topics every year, and making sure all of our engineers and business staff are up to date and ready to field with the latest info is key.

The event left us enthusiastic about what we can expect from Korean developers and the Korean market in the near future.

2 days may seem like a short time, but there is always something to do. Both nights, we spent meeting with clients and catching up on the latest milestones and requests. In game dev, because everyone worries about leaks, there is always a lot of sensitive material developers don’t want to send over the internet. Sometimes the only way we can see an issue is to see it in person. Making trips like this is essential.
We did make sure to make the best of the trip to eat some incredible dishes and take in some of the sights around Gangnam.
